We managed to travel from Austin to Dallas, to Mexia, to Georgetown all in just under two days. Gogi survived another Martinelli Christmas, (like a trooper I must add) and I got to spend some quality time at his parent's house. Learning about your partner and their childhood is really healthy for a relationship. I have come to understand his roots and origins, and can now come to better terms with my own. Plus, if he still wants to be with me after watching hours of embarrassing home-videos, then he is the one for me! We shared whiskey, received champagne, and came home with candies and pies. The drive through torrential rains and freezing weather was worth it.
Gogi bought me a leather cafe-racer jacket from Laced with Romance that I had been lusting after. We managed to buy each other's gifts from our same friend in the store, and she kept it all a secret! His awesome thrashed out Honda shirt (from the early 80's?) fits him perfectly. What a motorcycle-riding-couple we are! I still have to purchase a few gifts for friends, but mostly I think we will just go out to a nice endearing lunch. I find that the most meaningful, rather than a silly card or cheap present. I would rather see your face across from some pumpkin bisque and a turkey tartine than an opened bag from the mall.
I am hoping that these weather blues will pass, and that my new year will start with a bang!
